THESE ARE TWO OF OUR SCHOLARS THAT LAST YEAR WERE ON OUR FIRST-PLACE REGIONAL DESTINATION IMAGINATION TEAM.

THEY WENT TO STATE AS WELL.

THE ANNUAL EDUCATORS RISING NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN ASSOCIATION WITH TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF FUTURE EDUCATORS WAS HELD IN WASHINGTON DC, JUNE 24TH TO THE 27TH, WITH MORE THAN 1,300 STUDENTS AND THEIR TEACHER LEADERS COMING TOGETHER TO NETWORK,

LEARN, COMPETE, AND CELEBRATE EDUCATION TOGETHER.

MEMBERS OF BIRDVILLE ISD EDUCATORS RISING CHAPTERS ATTENDED AND COMPETED IN THE NATIONAL COMPETITION.

JOELIZ CRUZ RAMOS, SENIOR FROM BIRDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, PLACED SECOND IN THE TEACHER CREATIVE MATERIALS COMPETITION.

IN THIS CONTEST, STUDENTS SHOWCASED AND CREATED THEIR OWN MATERIALS FOR A LESSON OF THEIR CHOOSING AND PRESENTED IT TO JUDGES.

JOELIZ AMAZED THE JUDGES WITH HER TEACHER-CREATED MATERIAL, WHICH WAS CALLED MARVELOUS MATH MAGIC.

SHE WAS USING WOODEN BLOCKS FROM A STACKABLE GAME, AND SHE CREATED A MATH GAME THAT FOCUSED ON FIVE SPECIFIC AREAS, INCLUDING ADDITION, SUBTRACTION, MULTIPLICATION, DIVISION, AND ORDER OF OPERATIONS.

SHE COLOR-CODED THE SECTIONS, DESIGNED EACH MATH PROBLEM, AND HAND-PAINTED IT ON THE BLOCKS.

MARVELOUS MATH MAGIC INCLUDES OVER 4,000 DIFFERENT MATH PROBLEMS PER EACH OF THE FIVE AREAS.

JOELIZ CREATED HER MATH GAMES SPECIFICALLY FOR 5TH GRADE, BUT IT IS A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR ENRICHMENT FOR 4TH GRADERS, AND OR REMEDIATION ACTIVITY FOR 5TH THROUGH 7TH GRADERS.

JOELIZ ALSO EMPHASIZED HOW HER ACTIVITY WOULD BENEFIT TACTILE LEARNERS AND PROVIDE A GREAT CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT STRATEGY FOR THE EARLY FINISHERS WHO LOVED THE CHALLENGE.

WE ATTRIBUTE OUR STUDENTS' SUCCESSES NOT ONLY TO THEIR HARD WORK, BUT TO THE DEDICATION OF OUR OUTSTANDING TEACHERS.

IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO RECOGNIZE EDUCATION AND TRAINING TEACHER KAREN KALLAS.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JOELIZ AND MRS. KALLAS FOR ACHIEVING THE HIGHEST LEVEL AS NATIONAL WINNERS.

>> GOOD EVENING. IT IS MY PLEASURE TO ANNOUNCE ZANE SHEFFIELD, A BIRDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR FOR BEING NAMED STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION 2022 STUDENT HEROES AWARD RECIPIENT FOR DISTRICT 11.

HE IS ONE OF ONLY 15 STUDENTS SELECTED STATEWIDE FOR HIS ACTS OF KINDNESS, CHARITY, AND SERVICE HE OFFERS OTHERS.

AS A SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMITHFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL, ZANE BEGAN ORGANIZING CHARITABLE EFFORTS AS HIS PASSION PROJECT.

HE STARTED THE BACK THE HOMELESS PROJECT, AS HE IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE LESS FORTUNATE.

ZANE'S FAMILY WHO IS HERE TONIGHT WITH US, HAD VOLUNTEERED SERVING THE HOMELESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS, AND HE KNEW THAT IF WE ALL DID A LITTLE, TOGETHER WE WOULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.

UNDER HIS LEADERSHIP, THE BACK THE HOMELESS SLACKATHON WAS STARTED THAT RAISED MONEY TO PROVIDE 200 SPECIALLY MADE BACKPACKS FOR THE HOMELESS.

IN ADDITION, EACH YEAR THE PROJECT GIVES OUT EMPTY, DAPPLE BAGS TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS, FILL THE BAGS WITH MUCH NEEDED ITEMS AND RETURN THEM TO BIRDVILLE ISD.

THESE FILLED BAGS ARE GIVEN OUT ON CHRISTMAS DAY.

ALSO, INSTEAD OF A TRADITIONAL 5K, HE ORGANIZED A 0.5 K, WHERE HE HAD SNACKS, DRINKS, ETC, ALONG THE SHORT PATH.

THIS YEAR'S EVENT RAISED AROUND $4,000, WHERE HALF OF THE PROCEEDS WILL GO TO HELP STUDENTS WITHIN VERBAL VETERAN HOMELESS SITUATIONS.

THE BACK THE HOMELESS PROJECT IS PARTNERED WITH A NON-PROFIT CALLED TARRANT TO THE WORLD, SPONSORED BY AND AS THEIR DIRECTOR, MARY HADLEY, ALSO HERE TONIGHT AND AGAIN, AS ALISON SAID, WITHOUT OUR EDUCATORS TO SUPPORT THESE STUDENTS AND THEIR HARD WORK, IT JUST MAKES IT GO A LOT FASTER AND FARTHER ALONG.

WITH THAT, WE CONGRATULATE ZANE SHEFFIELD, AND HIS PARENTS, AND GRANDPARENTS HERE TONIGHT FOR THIS PRESTIGIOUS HONOR.

THE COLLECTIVE VISION OF THE 27 PTAS THAT MAKE UP OUR COUNCIL IS TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CHILD'S POTENTIAL IS A REALITY.

I'M JOINED TODAY BY SEVERAL COUNCIL BOARD MEMBERS, KATHY LANGSTON, CHRISTINE GARZA, MICHELLE MINHAN, AND ANGIE MCKEON.

BECAUSE WE VALUE THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE SUPERINTENDENT, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, COMMUNITY AND PTA, AND BECAUSE WE COUNT ON YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND WE WANTED TO GIVE YOU JUST A QUICK BRIEF UPDATE ON OUR WORK.

>> I'M TALKING ABOUT CLOTHES CONNECTION, WHICH HOPEFULLY I THINK ALL WE ALL KNOW.

BUT CLOTHES CONNECTIONS IS AN AMAZING RESOURCE THAT PROVIDES CLOTHES TO STUDENTS THAT ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH, AS WELL AS THOSE WHO EXPERIENCED AN EXTENUATING EVENTS SUCH AS HOUSE FIRES, TPS PLACEMENT, OR HOMELESSNESS.

TWICE A YEAR, EACH STUDENT IS PROVIDED WITH A WEEK'S WORTH OF GENERAL USE CLOTHES AS WELL AS NEW SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR.

ELIGIBLE STUDENTS ARE ALSO PROVIDED WITH TWO JACKETS AND A PAIR OF SHOES EACH YEAR.

CLOTHES CONNECTION MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THOSE THAT SERVES.

BUT UNFORTUNATELY, WE DOESN'T RUN ON GOOD KARMA ALONE.

WE NEED YOUR HELP. PLEASE HELP US IN ENSURING THAT EACH ELIGIBLE FAMILIES ARE MADE AWARE OF THIS AMAZING RESOURCE AND ENCOURAGED THEM TO LEVERAGE IT.

WE'RE ALSO ALWAYS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP CERTAIN AND HELP MORE CUSTOMERS.

WE HAVE A SUPPLY DEPOT WHICH STOCKS SCHOOL SUPPLIES THAT EACH DISTRICT CAMPUS TO PROVIDE TO STUDENTS IN NEED OF TO ENSURE THEY HAVE THE TOOLS THEY NEED FOR LEARNING.

THIS YEAR, WE DELIVERED 363 SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS TO OUR SCHOOLS FOR STUDENTS IN NEED.

BUT THAT WAS JUST TO COMPLEMENT THE EFFORTS OF REFRESH, AND WE'VE ALREADY SOLD 444 STUDENTS SO FAR AT CLOSE CONNECTION.

WE'VE ONLY OPEN FOR FIVE DAYS, SO THANK YOU.

>> I'M ANGIE MCKEON HERE TO PRESENT ABOUT REFLECTIONS, WHICH IS AN AWESOME PROGRAM TO SHOWCASE THE ARTS.

IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET PROJECTS FOR PRE-K UNTIL 12TH GRADE AND THERE'S A SPECIAL ARTISTS CATEGORY AS WELL.

THERE'S ONE AT EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL, THE BIRDVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THE THEME THIS YEAR IS SHOW YOUR VOICE, AND IT INCLUDES THESE SIX AREAS, VISUAL ARTS, LITERATURE, FILM PRODUCTION, DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY, MUSIC COMPOSITION, AS WELL AS PHOTOGRAPHY.

SO IT STARTS ON A LOCAL LEVEL AT EACH SCHOOL, ADVANCES TO THE COUNCIL LEVEL, THEN TO STATE, AND THEN ONTO NATIONAL.

SO IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL THESE STUDENTS.

LET'S KEEP THE ARTS ALIVE.

>> OUR GOAL FOR THIS COUNCIL, THIS SCHOOL YEAR IS TO ENSURE THAT WE CAN REACH ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY.

THOSE THAT NEED SUPPORT, THOSE WHO NEED A LITTLE LOVE, THOSE THAT NEED ENCOURAGEMENT.

WE NEED A LOT OF OUR COMMUNITY TO KNOW THAT WE ARE THERE FOR THEM.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE 132 LOCAL BOARD MEMBERS THAT SERVE AT 27 LOCAL PTAS.

BUT UNFORTUNATELY, PTAS HAVE NOT ALL BEEN ESTABLISHED TO ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS.

SO PLEASE HELP US CHANGE THAT AND SPREAD THE WORD THAT THE PTAS ARE HERE FOR THEM AND I HOPE I CAN COUNT ON YOU TO ALL ACHIEVE THIS GOAL FOR US. THANK YOU.

THEN OFFICER BROWN AND OFFICER WATKINS BOTH REPRESENT THE HALTOM CITY PD, NORTH RICHLAND HILLS PD, AS WELL AS SRO EXPERIENCE.

WE HAVE MILITARY EXPERIENCE, THE US EMBASSY GARDENING EXPERIENCE.

THEN MY EXPERIENCE COMES FROM AN URBAN SCHOOL SETTING.

BETWEEN EVERYBODY ON OUR TEAM, WHEN WE VIEW SAFETY AND SECURITY, WHEN WE SIT DOWN AND TALK SOLUTIONS, WE HAVE MULTIPLE LENSES THAT WE'RE LOOKING THROUGH.

I THINK THAT THAT ADDS VALUE FOR OUR DISTRICT.

OUR DISTRICT ALSO HAS AN AMAZING COUNSELING TEAM WITH LEANNE CARROLL, THE DIRECTOR OF COUNSELING SERVICES, AND MICHELLE BROADWATER THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR.

WHAT WE REALIZE WHEN YOU TALK SAFETY AND SECURITY, YOU CANNOT MAKE ANY PLACE HARD ENOUGH.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE COUNSELING SOLUTIONS TO HELP TAKE PEOPLE OFF PATHWAYS OF DESTRUCTION.

WHEN PEOPLE HAVE IDEAS, WHEN PEOPLE HAVE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS, OUR COUNSELING TEAM IS VERY RESPONSIVE AND THEY HELP US WITH OUR SAFETY EFFORTS.

THEN WE HAVE OUR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SUITE AND OUR BEHAVIORAL THREAT ASSESSMENT TO HELP US AS EDUCATORS KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE WE CAN HELP THEM.

OUR BISD SAFETY COMMITTEE IS A RECOMMENDATION FROM OUR GOVERNOR.

THE WEEKLY DOOR SWEEPS IS SOMETHING THAT IS NEW.

EACH EXTERIOR DOOR IS BEING CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS.

OUR FACILITIES DEPARTMENT DID AN AMAZING JOB THIS SUMMER, GOING AND CHECKING ALL OF THE DOORS, MAKING SURE THAT ANY REPAIRS NEEDED WERE DONE PRIOR TO THE STAART OF SCHOOL, AND THEN NOW WE DO WEEKLY DOOR SWEEPS.

JUST IMAGINE 500-1,000 DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF KIDS PER SCHOOL GOING IN AND OUT OF THE DOORS.

WE CHECK THOSE DOORS WEEKLY TO MAKE SURE THOSE DOORS ARE STILL FUNCTIONING AS THEY SHOULD BE.

FINALLY, IN BIRDVILLE ISD, SAFETY ISN'T JUST A PROGRAM, IT'S A CULTURE.

WE JUST CAN'T KEEP PUSHING OUR DURATIONS OUT INDEFINITELY BECAUSE THAT COSTS MONEY AND WE PAY OVERHEAD AND PROFIT TO THESE CONTRACTORS FOR THAT DURATION.

WE DO WANT TO INCREASE THOSE AGAIN,
