ULTIMATELY SELECTED TO REHEARSE AND PERFORM DURING THE ANNUAL TEXAS MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION CLINIC AND CONVENTION IN ONE OF THE 18 TEXAS ALL-STATE ENSEMBLES. IT TAKES AN INTENSE LEVEL OF FOCUS, WORK ETHIC AND MUSICAL SKILL AND TALENT TO ACHIEVE THE HIGHEST OF HONORS FOR A TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL MUSICIAN.

IT IS CLEAR THAT PARTICIPATION IN MUSIC HAS NUMEROUS BENEFITS, WITH ONE OF THOSE BEING STRENGTHENED COGNITIVE AND REASONING SKILLS.

IT'S WONDERFUL TO ACKNOWLEDGE TO YOU THAT ALTHOUGH THE 2022 TEXAS STATE SAT AVERAGE SCORE WAS 1013 AND THE NATIONAL AVERAGE WAS 1060.

THE 2022 TEXAS ALL STATE AVERAGE WAS 1307.

SO THAT'S AN OUTSTANDING STATISTIC FOR YOU.

BIRDVILLE ISD IS PROUD TO RECOGNIZE NINE STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT THAT ACHIEVE THE HONOR OF BECOMING A 2023 TEXAS ALL-STATE MUSICIAN. THESE STUDENTS PERSEVERED THROUGH MULTIPLE AUDITIONS ON THE DISTRICT, REGION AND AREA LEVELS, WITH MOST BEGINNING THEIR MUSICAL PREPARATIONS THIS PAST SUMMER, AS I'M SURE THEIR PARENTS REMEMBER.

WITH ALL OF THE ATTITUDES AND ALL OF THE VOCAL THINGS GOING ON BEFORE WE RECOGNIZE THESE STUDENTS, I DO WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR WONDERFUL AND FANTASTIC TEACHER MENTORS.

THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARD IS CONSIDERED BY MANY TO BE THE GOLD STANDARD OF CERTIFICATION RECOGNIZED AT A NATIONAL LEVEL.

THE NATIONAL BOARD BELIEVES HIGHER STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS MEANS BETTER LEARNING FOR STUDENTS AND WORKS TO ADVANCE THE ART OF ACCOMPLISHED TEACHING.

IN THE FALL OF 2021.

BIRDVILLE ISD PARTNERED WITH FIVE SURROUNDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

WE PARTNERED WITH EAGLE MOUNTAIN, SAGINAW, NORTHWEST, H-E-B, MANSFIELD AND CARROLL ISD TO FORM THE COHORT TITLED SUPPORTING TEACHER EXCELLENCE A PATHWAY TO NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION.

ONCE ESTABLISHED, EACH DISTRICT THEN WORKED INDEPENDENTLY TO SUPPORT ITS TEACHERS IN THEIR NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION JOURNEY.

TO APPLY FOR A NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION, A CANDIDATE MUST COMPLETE AND SUBMIT FOUR SEPARATE COMPONENTS FOR REVIEW.

THE ESTIMATED TIME FOR A CANDIDATE TO COMPLETE ALL FOUR COMPONENTS IS BETWEEN 300 AND 400 HOURS.

HOWEVER, I THINK IF YOU ASK SOME OF THE FOLKS HERE TONIGHT, THEY WOULD SAY IT FEELS LIKE A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THAT WITHIN THE GREATER COHORT OF ALL OF THE SIX COLLABORATING DISTRICTS, THERE WERE 14 TEACHERS WHO ACHIEVED CERTIFICATION.

SIX OF THOSE 14 CAME FROM RIGHT HERE IN BIRDVILLE ISD.

THE SIX NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS WE ARE RECOGNIZING TONIGHT ALL COMPLETED AND ACHIEVED THEIR CERTIFICATION IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR'S TIME.

THE LEVEL OF SUCCESS FOR THIS COHORT HAS EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS, AND CURRENTLY THERE ARE ONLY AROUND 1000 NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

AND WE ARE SO HONORED THAT WE GET TO ADD THESE SIX TEACHERS INTO THAT COUNT.

IT IS A TESTAMENT OF THEIR RESILIENCE, THEIR DEDICATION AND THEIR GROWTH MINDSET OF OUR BISD EMPLOYEES, AND WE ARE PROUD TO RECOGNIZE EACH ONE FOR THEIR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE COHORT AND THEIR SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT OF NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION.

MAEGAN NOT ONLY USED THIS LAST YEAR TO EARN HER OWN MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION, BUT SHE ALSO SHARED HER KNOWLEDGE WITH OTHERS SEEKING CERTIFICATION WHILE WORKING AS A FACILITATOR HERE IN BIRDVILLE ISD.

THROUGHOUT HER LEADERSHIP IN THE COHORT, SHE HAS SHARED WITH OTHERS THAT THIS PROCESS IS DESIGNED TO PUSH, CHALLENGE AND GROW YOU BY DOING THE WORK, YOU BECOME DEEPLY, DEEPLY REFLECTIVE OF YOUR PRACTICE, HEIGHTEN YOUR FOCUS ON WHAT GROWS STUDENTS AND IMMERSE YOURSELF IN STUDY AND COLLABORATION TO GROW YOUR CRAFT.

DR. MONTGOMERY, IN 1984 FOUNDED THIS ORGANIZATION, AND I WAS AT THAT VERY FIRST MEETING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS IN TYLER.

AND SHE'S A SPUNKY LITTLE OLD LADY THAT IN HER LATE EIGHTIES RIGHT NOW, SHE IS A RETIRED EDUCATOR.

SHE WAS AN ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCE IN GRAPEVINE COLLEYVILLE WHEN SHE RETIRED.

BUT SHE'S ALSO VERY RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT ONLY THIS ORGANIZATION, BUT GETTING THE CURRICULUM AUDIT FOUNDED THROUGH TASA AND WORKING WITH JOHNNY VASSILEVA.

BUT WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS ORGANIZATION STANDS FOR, WHICH IS REALLY TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING WOMEN EDUCATORS AND AND TO TO REALLY THEIR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE EQUITY AND QUALITY AND LEADERSHIP THROUGH RENEWAL, MENTORING AND CAREER ADVANCEMENT.

IN ADDITION TO CCMR, THAT RATING CHANGING, THEY ARE ALSO ALSO SUNSETTING CERTAIN IBCS THE INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATES AND THEN THE DISTRICT RATING. THIS ONE IS VERY CRITICAL.

IT'S VERY DIFFERENT.

SO THE DISTRICT HAD A RATING PREVIOUSLY BY ITSELF.

NOW IT'S GOING TO BE A PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION.

SO FOR EXAMPLE, WE'RE WORKING ON A WE HAVE A PRESENTATION DEVELOPED FOR LEADERS OF LEARNERS COMING UP THAT SHOWS THE PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION.

WE HAVE BROUGHT TO THE BOARD ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS SOME OPTIONS FOR REPLACING THE LIGHTING AT THE FAC.

WE HAD SOME VARIOUS THINGS THAT WE BROUGHT FORTH AND WE'VE DONE SOME ADDITIONAL RESEARCH.

TONIGHT, WHAT WE'RE BRINGING YOU IS BASICALLY THE BASIC PIECE OF THE CONCOURSE UPDATES TO THE LIGHTING FOR LED LIGHTING THAT WE NEED.

AND THEN THE IF YOU REMEMBER, THE ENTRYWAY COLORED LIGHTING BASED ON THE COLORS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL.

AS WE CONTINUE TO RESEARCH THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS WE HAD, IF YOU REMEMBER, WE HAD A MASCOT EMBLEM THAT WAS GOING TO BE IN THE CONCOURSE AREA, THE INITIAL PROJECTOR LIGHTING.

WHEN THEY REALLY STARTED DIGGING DOWN, WE WERE TOLD BY THE ARCHITECTS WITH THEIR CONSULTANTS THAT WE WEREN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET A BRIGHT ENOUGH PROJECTOR TO BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY SEE THE MASCOT.

SO THEN THEY WENT TO ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE, WHICH WAS BASICALLY PUTTING IN A SMALL SCOREBOARD IN THAT AREA, WHICH WAS GOING TO BE PRICEY.

WELL, THEN WE ACTUALLY DROVE OUT TO FACILITY AND BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION, WE REALIZED THAT UNLESS YOU'RE DRIVING DOWN THE MAIN AREA INTO THE STADIUM, THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU COULD SEE THAT MASCOT.

SO FOR $115,000 PRICE TAG, IT JUST DIDN'T SEEM FEASIBLE.

WE DID RESEARCH THE OPTION OF PUTTING SOME OF THE MASCOT EMBLEMS AT THE TOP AND DUE TO THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME REALLY TO DO A BIG INVESTIGATION, IT WAS GOING TO CREATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE BIRD BIRD NESTS AND PERCHING THAT WE HAD HAD BEFORE.

SO IF THE BOARD WANTS US TO LOOK AT THAT PROJECT, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO DO A LOT MORE RESEARCH ON SOMETHING FOR THE FUTURE.

SO TONIGHT WE'VE ACTUALLY GOT AS AN ACTION ITEM, AS A AMENDMENT TO THE CONTRACT FOR THE WATERPROOFING, THIS LIGHTING, THIS PIECE, AND THEN ALSO THE COLORED LIGHTING AS YOU ENTER THE MAIN CONCOURSE AREA.

THE PRICING, WE HAD ABOUT 140 843,600 LEFT OVER IN THE WATERPROOFING BUDGET.

THE TOTAL COST FOR THE UPDATE IS 155.

SO THERE'S ABOUT 11,600 THAT WILL BE TAKING OUT OF OTHER FUNDS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN GET THAT PROJECT DONE.

WE WANT TO GET THIS GOING WITH THE CONTRACTOR SO WE CAN HAVE IT READY FOR A FOOTBALL SEASON THIS SUMMER.

AND I THINK THAT THE MESSAGE YOU SHOULD TAKE AWAY FROM THAT IS THAT MANY PEOPLE YOU'RE ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE THE ALWAYS GOING TO HATE IS GOING TO HATE.

BUT I THINK, YOU KNOW, WHAT WE'RE HEARING OUT THERE IS THAT PROUD OF YOUR LEADERSHIP AND PROUD OF THE DIRECTION WE'RE GOING TO KEEP WORKING? I KNOW THERE'S PROBLEMS. WE'RE NOT GOING TO PAT OURSELVES ON THE BACK AND SAY THERE'S NOT .

AND I REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT NOT SAYING THIS, BUT PUBLIC SCHOOLS GET MONEY FROM THE TAXPAYERS.

AND THE LEGISLATURE HAS SAID, WELL, IF YOU'RE GOING TO GET THAT MONEY, THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF STRINGS ATTACHED, A LOT OF STRINGS ATTACHED, BECAUSE WE WANT TO KNOW WHERE THAT MONEY'S GOING, WHAT YOU'RE DOING WITH IT.

AND SO WE HAVE ASSESSMENTS THAT WE DON'T NOT DO OR DO NOT THINK ARE THE RIGHT WAY TO EVALUATE OUR KIDS.

BUT WE DO THAT BECAUSE LEGISLATURE SAYS WE'RE GOING TO TELL THE TAXPAYERS, THAT'S WHAT YOUR MONEY'S GOING FOR.

OKAY, IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO THAT, THEN EVERYBODY TO GET YOUR TAXPAYER MONEY FOR SCHOOLS SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE THOSE SAME ASSESSMENTS, BECAUSE IT'S TRUE FOR US.

IT'S TRUE FOR EVERYBODY.

IT'S NOT JUST THAT WE'RE DIFFERENT AND ASSESSMENTS OUGHT TO BE FOR EVERYBODY.

FINANCIAL REPORTING. YOU SHOULD SEE WHAT WE HAVE TO DO FOR FINANCIAL REPORTING AND HOW WE HAVE TO ACCOUNT FOR EVERY PENNY AND HOW WE GET AUDITED.

WE TRANSPORT PEOPLE.

AND IT'S BEEN SINCE MOSES WAS TALKING TO BURNING BUSH, THAT THEY'VE RAISED THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY GIVE.

BUT WE HAVE TO TRANSPORT KIDS IF THEY'RE OVER A CERTAIN AND ANYBODY THAT TAKES YOUR TAXPAYER MONEY, IF YOU CARE ABOUT KIDS, YOU OUGHT TO HAVE TO TRANSPORT THOSE KIDS, TOO, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE DO.

AND WE FEED KIDS.

WHEN OUR KIDS COME IN, WE FEED THEM AND WE'RE MANY TIMES THE ONLY PLACE THEY'RE GOING TO GET ANYTHING TO EAT.

AND SO IF YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS FOR EDUCATION, YOU NEED TO FEED THOSE KIDS BECAUSE THOSE SAME KIDS OR KIDS WERE EDUCATING.

SO YOU'RE JUST GOING TO LEAVE THE KIDS THAT NEED TO BE EAT IT, NEED TO EAT WITH US, AND THEN EVERYBODY ELSE GETS TO MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

IT'S NOT FAIR. THAT'S NOT THE WAY THE WORLD IS SUPPOSED TO WORK.

WE HIRE CERTIFIED TEACHERS.

DO YOU WANT ANOTHER SYSTEM THAT DOESN'T WANT THAT? DO YOU NOT WANT KIDS TO BE WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE? DO NOT WANT THEM EDUCATED.

WE TAKE THEM.

WE DON'T GET TO ASK THE PARENTS, DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR KID? DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION? WELL, IF YOU DON'T, THEN WE DON'T WANT YOUR KID.

SO WHAT DO WE WANT YOUR FOLKS DO? WE WANT EDUCATION FOR ALL THE AMERICA I WAS GROWN I GREW UP IN AND THE REASON I AM WHERE I AM, BECAUSE THAT WAS AVAILABLE, I DON'T GET MY MONEY TO SOMEBODY THAT'S NOT GOING TO BE DOING THE SAME THING.
