DAY PROGRAM APPLICATION. AND WE WILL WAIT A MOMENT FOR DR.

CLARK TO GET ORGANIZED, OR MR. BASS. DR. CLARK IS ON HER WAY.

AND I KNOW THAT THE JUST AS SHE'S AS SHE'S COMING IN THE GOAL OF THE OPTIONAL FLEXIBLE SCHOOL DAY PROGRAM, AS YOU KNOW, IS TO PROVIDE THAT OPTION FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE AT RISK OF DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL OR HAVE DROPPED OUT OR FOR SOME REASON ARE BEHIND IN THEIR CORE SUBJECTS AND THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL ON A REGULAR FULL FIVE DAY WEEK SCHEDULE.

BECAUSE IN PART THEY HAVE TO HELP SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES.

AND SO THIS IS AN ANNUAL ITEM AND AN ANNUAL HEARING.

AND SO, DR. CLARK, YOU CAN TAKE IT AWAY. SORRY I'M LATE.

GOT CAUGHT. YOU'RE RIGHT. WE WANT TO HAVE THIS OPTION FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WE DID NOT HAVE ANYONE ON AN OPTIONAL FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE LAST YEAR.

SO IT IS RARE THAT IT IS USED. BUT YOU HAVE TO DO THIS IN ORDER TO HAVE IT AVAILABLE IF YOU DO NEED IT.

AND WE CERTAINLY DON'T WANT ANY OF OUR STUDENTS TO DROP OUT BECAUSE OF ISSUES THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE, PERSONAL, FAMILY. EXAMPLES COULD BE CARE FOR A FAMILY MEMBER THAT, WHERE WE ARRANGE OUR SCHEDULE, WHERE THEY CAN ATTEND SCHOOL, GET THEIR CREDITS AND STAY ON TRACK, AND YET TAKE CARE OF ISSUES THAT MIGHT COME UP.

SO IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE CERTAINLY THINK IT'S A VALUABLE OPTION TO HAVE, AND IT PROVIDES THAT FLEXIBILITY THAT'S MUCH NEEDED.

I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS. SO IF WE HAD A STUDENT THAT WANTS TO GO THIS ROUTE, DO THEY TALK TO THEIR CAMPUS PRINCIPAL OR. IT GOES THROUGH THE COUNSELOR. THE COUNSELOR.

AND THERE, YOU KNOW, THERE HAS TO BE, WE TRY TO WORK WITH IT WHERE WE DON'T HAVE TO USE THIS, BUT IF IT IS NEEDED, IT'S AVAILABLE. AND WE HAVE DISTRICTS ALL AROUND THAT HAVE THIS AS WELL.

DR. STINSON, SOMETHING IS HAPPENING SATURDAY THAT OUR COMMUNITY JUST GOES OVERBOARD WITH AND WE'RE SO APPRECIATIVE.

WELL, WE, YOU'RE EXACTLY RIGHT. AND I THINK THAT AT REFRESH BISD, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT IS, IT'S PHENOMENAL. AND THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS, UPWARDS OF OVER 3000, 4000 STUDENTS. AND THE SUPPORT THAT THEY RECEIVE FROM ALL ACROSS THE COMMUNITY, ALL ACROSS THE TARRANT COUNTY AREA.

IT'S SOMETHING TO BEHOLD AND IT'S HARD TO PUT INTO WORDS HOW THANKFUL WE ARE FOR THE SUPPORT.

WE HAVE STORAGE ROOM. THIS IS ACTUALLY OVERFLOW THAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON HERE, AND THAT'S SOME MORE OF OUR OVERFLOW THAT WE BOXED UP.

AND WE DIDN'T HAVE RACKS TO HANG IT ON YET. AND OUR SHOE SUPPLY, THESE ARE OUR BACKUP SHOES, NOT THE ONES THAT ARE ALREADY OUT THERE BUT BACKUPS.

AND SO WE'RE JUST DOING GREAT THINGS AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SERVING THE STUDENTS IN A MORE VISIBLE SPOT.

IT'S GOING TO HAVE BETTER PARKING FOR PEOPLE TO COME.

AND THIS I'M VERY PROUD OF. THIS IS OUR SUPPLY DEPOT.

NOW. IN THE PAST, SUPPLY DEPOT HAD ABOUT HALF OF THE BACK ROOM AT THE CLOSE CONNECTION BECAUSE WE JUST DIDN'T HAVE ANY ROOM.

AND SO WHAT WE'RE HOPING TO DO THIS NEXT YEAR IS OPENED IT UP AFTER SCHOOL FOR TEACHERS TO COME GET THINGS THAT THEY NEED AND USE IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

BIRDVILLE CENTER OF TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANCED LEARNING'S TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF FUTURE EDUCATORS, TAFE CHAPTER MEMBERS WON AT THE STATE LEVEL AND ADVANCED TO THE NATIONAL EDUCATORS RISING COMPETITION.

THE EDUCATORS RISING 2025 NATIONAL CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA FROM JUNE 26TH THROUGH JUNE 29TH, AND THE COMPETITIONS INCLUDED OVER 3300 STUDENTS NATIONWIDE.

OLIVIA MCGUIRE, RICHLAND HIGH SCHOOL, COMPETED IN THE EXPLORING NON-CORE SUBJECT TEACHING CAREERS COMPETITION, AND SHE CHOSE TO RESEARCH SPECIAL EDUCATION AS A CAREER AND IN FACT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR TO VOLUNTEER IN A SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM.

OLIVIA'S OUTSTANDING PRESENTATION WITH HER IN-DEPTH RESEARCH EARNED HER FIRST-PLACE WIN AT NATIONALS, AND OLIVIA WAS UNABLE TO BE HERE THIS EVENING, BUT WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR HER OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT.

[APPLAUSE] WE'RE HIRING HER RIGHT? WHEN SHE GRADUATES.

YES, YES. OKAY. AND THEN WE HAVE AVALON LIDSTROM, RICHLAND HIGH SCHOOL WHO COMPETED IN THE SAME EVENT, EXPLORING NON-CORE SUBJECT TEACHING CAREERS COMPETITION.

AND AVALON CHOSE ART AS A CAREER FOR HER PROJECT DUE TO HER PASSION FOR THAT SUBJECT.

SHE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHADOW AN ART TEACHER, CONDUCTED FORMAL INTERVIEWS WITH THE TEACHER, AND RESEARCHED THE CAREER. AVALON WON FOURTH PLACE WITH HER EXCEPTIONAL PRESENTATION AND WILL BE ATTENDING TEXAS TECH THIS FALL TO MAJOR IN EDUCATION WITH PLANS TO BE AN ART TEACHER.

BIRDVILLE CENTER OF TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANCED LEARNING (BCTAL) GAME DESIGN STUDENTS, MICHAEL HODGE, BIRDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL AND DRALON COOPER, BIRDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL COMPETED IN THE INTERACTIVE APPLICATION AND VIDEO GAME DEVELOPMENT EVENT.

THE COMPETITION WAS BASED ON A PROJECT THAT DRALON AND MICHAEL TIRELESSLY WORKED ON THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR.

THE PLAYERS TAKE ON THE ROLE OF CLONE GUY OR FRAIL GUY BATTLING THROUGH A MYSTERIOUS, EVER CHANGING CLONE FACILITY, WHAT MAKES THE GAME SO COMPELLING IS THAT NO TWO PLAYTHROUGHS ARE THE SAME.

AS WE ALL KNOW UNDER THE CURRENT TAD BOARD. TAD WILL NOT BE APPRAISING EXISTING RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY UNTIL 2027.

THEY WILL CONTINUE TO APPRAISE COMMERCIAL PROPERTY AND NEW RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION YEARLY.

THIS POLICY WAS PRESENTED AS AN EFFORT TO LOWER PROPERTY TAXES, BUT WHAT THE POLICY FAILED TO ADDRESS WAS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IN A DECLINING REAL ESTATE MARKET. LET'S TALK ABOUT BIRDVILLE PROPERTY VALUES.

THESE NUMBERS ARE ACCORDING TO ZILLOW OVER THE LAST YEAR.

ZIP CODE 76117, DOWN 4.6%. 76180, DOWN 3.4%. 76148 DOWN 3.3%.

76111 DOWN 3.9%. IN FACT, THE ONLY ZIP CODE I COULD FIND WERE PROPERTY VALUES INCREASED OVER THE LAST YEAR WAS ZIP CODE 76034, WHICH IS PART OF COLLEYVILLE. THESE VALUES ARE UP 1%.

BY FREEZING THE MARKET VALUES AT 2024 LEVELS, THE DECLINE IN VALUE IS CAUSING RESIDENTS OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO PAY TAXES ON OVERVALUED HOMES. AND SINCE INCREASED LOCAL VALUES REDUCE THE STATE'S PORTION OF SCHOOL FUNDING, YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF HOW THIS IS GOOD FOR YOUR RESIDENTS.

FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES, I SPOKE WITH THE CHIEF APPRAISER TWO WEEKS AGO, AND HE STATED PEOPLE WHO PROTESTED THEIR PROPERTY VALUES, ON AVERAGE, ARE SEEING A REDUCTION IN VALUE OF 10%, BUT FOR SOME, THAT NUMBER IS AS HIGH AS 25% TO 30%.

NOW, TO TIE THIS TOGETHER, MR. BARNES HAD AN OPPORTUNITY AT THE MARCH TAD MEETING TO VOTE TO APPROVE A RESOLUTION TO REAPPRAISE PROPERTY VALUES FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT WERE IN DANGER OF FAILING THE PROPERTY VALUE STUDY. THE VOTE FAILED 4 TO 4, WITH MR. BARNES VOTING NOT TO REAPPRAISE. SO FORGIVE ME IF I FIND IT IRONIC THAT THE TAX ASSESSOR, WHO CHAMPIONED POSSIBLY CUTTING FUNDING TO SCHOOLS IN HIS APPRAISAL DISTRICT ROLE IS OVERSEEING A TAX INCREASE FOR COLLECTION EFFORTS.

THAT'S WHAT THE CONTRACT UNDER CONSIDERATION TONIGHT REPRESENTS A TAX INCREASE OF $13.608 ACCORDING TO YOUR NUMBERS.

WHEREAS IF MR. BARNES AND HIS APPRAISAL DISTRICT ROLE HAD THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT PERFORMANCE FUNCTION THIS YEAR AND APPRAISED RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY, THEN THE TAXPAYERS OF THIS DISTRICT WOULD HAVE SEEN A REDUCED TAX BURDEN THROUGH LOWER PROPERTY VALUES.

SO KEEP THIS DATE IN MIND. SEPTEMBER 15TH. IT'S THE DATE THAT TAD MUST APPROVE ITS BUDGET.

TAD'S PROPOSING A 1.1% INCREASE IN ITS BUDGET, WHICH IS ROUGHLY $370,000 THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY.

THE TAXING ENTITIES HAVE 30 DAYS FROM THE DATE TAD PASSES ITS BUDGET TO PASS A RESOLUTION OF DISAPPROVAL IF THEY CHOOSE, IF A MAJORITY DISAPPROVE OF IT. TAD IS REQUIRED TO DRAFT A NEW BUDGET FOR APPROVAL.

IN THAT ELECTION, VOTERS APPROVED A $300.8 MILLION PACKAGE FOR SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES AND BUSSES. I'M GOING TO GO OVER THE PROPOSITION A BRIEFLY,

IT INVOLVED SAFETY, SECURITY, RENOVATIONS, REPAIRS, REBUILDS AND BUSSES.

WE REBUILT MULLENDORE ELEMENTARY. WE BUILT A NEW PARTNER SCHOOL BETWEEN W.T.

FRANCISCO AND DAVID E SMITH. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE RIBBON CUTTING ON AUGUST 7TH.

WITH THAT WITH MR. SMITH. RENOVATIONS TO THE DENTON HIGHWAY PROPERTY, WHICH IS NOW GRIGGS HIGH SCHOOL, AND THE KUNKEL SPECIALIZED LEARNING CENTER. RENOVATIONS AND ADDITIONS TO HALTON HIGH SCHOOL.

GENERAL REPAIRS AND UPGRADES THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.

THE PURCHASE OF BUSSES AND THE PRESS BOXES AT ALL THREE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FIELDS.

SO AND AND THE ADDITION OF ARTIFICIAL TURF AS WELL.

SO AND AS FAR AS TECHNOLOGY GOES DISTRICT WIDE NETWORK UPDATES.

BRIEFLY, I'LL SHARE WITH YOU THE MAJOR PROJECTS AND MILESTONES.

THE TURF FIELDS ARE COMPLETED, THE PRESS BOXES ARE COMPLETED.

THE BUSSES ARE NEW BUSSES THAT WERE DELIVERED IN SPRING OF 2024, AND THE BIRDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL COURTYARD WAS COMPLETED AND RENOVATED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2024.

THE GRIGGS HIGH SCHOOL AND KUNKEL SPECIALIZED LEARNING CENTER. THE RENOVATION WAS MOST WAS THE MOST COMPLEX PROJECT DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE RENOVATION NEEDS.

THEY'RE WORKING KEY CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL PLAN.

BUT IT IS, AND IT IS NEAR, IT IS COMPLETE WITH THE ROOF REPLACEMENT OF THE METAL ROOF PORTION.

MOVING ON TO MULLENDORE AND SMITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

THE CONSTRUCTION BEGAN AT MULLENDORE IN OCTOBER 23RD AND AT SMITH IN DECEMBER 2023 AND THOSE ARE NOW COMPLETE.

THE HUDSON HIGH SCHOOL RENOVATIONS. THIS PROJECT SPANNED TWO SUMMERS AS WAS STATED IN THERE IN THE IN OUR INITIAL IN THE INITIAL PRESENTATION FROM THE CONTRACTORS AND A MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS WERE MADE, AND THEN THE DISTRICT WIDE CAMPUS UPGRADES INCLUDED 17 CAMPUSES THAT UNDERWENT ROOFING, GUTTERING, GUTTERS, FLOORING AND PAINTING PROJECTS, ALONG WITH HVAC REPLACEMENTS, PLUMBING REPAIRS, AND ELEVATOR UPGRADES, AS WELL AS HOW MANY? HOW MANY CAMPUSES? 17. THAT'S MOST OF OUR CAMPUS.

THAT'S IT. THAT'S RIGHT. SO ANYWAY THE LAST REMAINING HVAC WORK WILL BE COMPLETED IN THE SUMMER OF 2026 AT SMITHFIELD MIDDLE.

AND NOW I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO AARON TO GIVE US THE TECHNOLOGY UPDATES.

ALL RIGHT. SO THE TECHNOLOGY UPDATES THE BOND TASKED US WITH IMPROVING THE CONNECTIVITY FOR STUDENTS AND CONTINUING THAT 1 TO 1 RATIO AND THE BOND, THE BOND COMMITTEE WAS ACTUALLY ABLE TO DO A LOT MORE WITH THE FUNDS THAT WE WERE GIVEN. WE DID THE REPLACEMENT. FURTHER, THE REPLACEMENT CYCLES OF STUDENT AND TEACHER DEVICES.

THERE WERE NETWORK UPGRADES, AS WELL AS THE DATA CENTER REFRESH.

THAT WAS ONE OF THE VERY FIRST COMPLETION PROJECTS THAT WAS COMPLETED, AS WELL AS NEW STUDENT AND STAFF DEVICES.

NEW CHROMEBOOKS FOR INCOMING SIXTH AND NINTH GRADERS, AS WELL AS SECOND GRADERS WE HAVE.

THE DISTRICT HAS A A PROCEDURE THAT WE GO THROUGH THAT WE REFRESH THOSE DEVICES EVERY YEAR.

AND SECOND GRADE WAS OUR OUR GROUP THIS TIME.

AND THEN DISTRICT WIDE GUIDELINES FOR DEVICE REPLACEMENT, REPAIR INSURANCE OPTIONS AND USAGE POLICIES.

WE'RE KIND OF PART OF THIS. THE TECHNOLOGY PIECE, THERE'S BEEN SOME SECURITY IMPROVEMENTS, WHICH IS KIND OF EXCITING. US MOMS KIND OF GEEK OUT ABOUT ALL THE BELLS AND THE DOORBELLS AND ALL THE SECURITY BUTTONS AND ALL THE THINGS.

BUT UPGRADED SECURITY CAMERAS. THERE'S 2200 ACROSS THE DISTRICT THAT WERE INSTALLED.

AND THE SECURITY AND SOME OF THE TECHNOLOGY WORK OR ALL OF THE TECHNOLOGY WORK WAS INSTALLED BY OUR ISD STAFF.

SO IT WAS, ENABLED US TO SAVE SOME MONEY ON THAT INSTALLATION, LETTING OUR STAFF HAVE HANDS ON THE DEVICES THEY WERE THAT WAS BEING INSTALLED ON THE PROPERTIES. AND THOSE ARE CAMERAS WHERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE.

YEAH. UNLIKE THE OLD. YEAH. YEAH. YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE WHAT THEY'RE FILMING.

YEAH. AND HE EVEN SHOWED US, I THINK IT WAS LAST SUMMER.

YOU'LL SEE THE NORTHRIDGE ELEMENTARY COURTYARD THAT HAS NOT STARTED YET.

IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS PROPOSED IN THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE BOND, BUT SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE SHEER NUMBER OF PROJECTS THE DISTRICT WAS WORKING ON AT ONE TIME, WE COULDN'T GET TO THAT ONE, SO THAT ONE WAS PUSHED OFF FOR NEXT SUMMER.

HALTOM HIGH SCHOOL DANCE AND CHEER BUILDING. WE'LL BE KIND OF CUTTING IT CLOSE RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL STARTS IS WHEN THAT BUILDING WILL BE OPEN AND THEN THE RICHLAND AND ELEVATOR UPGRADES, THOSE ARE COMPLETE BEING COMPLETED NOW HOPEFULLY BY THE TIME SCHOOL STARTS, BUT NOT QUITE YET. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM UPGRADES WILL BE DONE BY SEPTEMBER.

AND THEN LIKE CHRIS MENTIONED EARLIER, SMITHFIELD MIDDLE HVAC, IT'S A TWO PHASE PROJECT.

THIS SUMMER'S FIRST PHASE NEXT SUMMER WILL BE THE SECOND PHASE ONCE SCHOOL IS OUT, WE'LL FINISH IT BEFORE THE FALL OF 2026.

I WANTED TO SHARE JUST A BRIEF RECAP OF SOME OF THE SESSIONS THAT WE ATTENDED.

CALVIN, WOULD YOU GO FIRST AND THEN BRENDA AND THEN? THEN I'LL GO. WELL, I REALLY LIKED ONE OF THE, THEY HAVE SESSIONS WE GO INTO, BUT THEY ALSO HAVE THESE HIRED SPEAKERS.

AND AS WE FACE THIS NEXT YEAR, I THINK THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT WHAT SHE SHARED WITH US.

AND SHE SAID, WHEN YOU'RE DOING A BUILDING, A RELATIONSHIP, WHEN YOU'RE WORKING ON A PROJECT, SHE SAID, YOU NEED TO ASK YOURSELF THREE QUESTIONS.

FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED TO SHARE YOUR GOAL. WHAT IS ON OUR LIST? WHAT ARE WE WANTING TO DO? THEN YOU HAVE TO SHARE THE TRUTH.

AND THE TRUTH IS, WHILE WE'RE ABOUT TO ATTACK, THIS YEAR IS HARD.

IT'S HARD. AND THEN YOU HAVE TO SHARE THE ACCOUNTABILITY.

AND THE ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO ALWAYS ASK THOSE ENTITIES THAT WE'RE WORKING WITH.

WHERE DO YOU NEED THE SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR? NOT JUST ONE TIME, BUT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. AND WHEN YOU TALK, THEY TALKED ABOUT HOW DO YOU MAKE THE CONNECTION WITH THE PEOPLE? YOU HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND YOU SAY, I SEE YOU.

I HEAR YOU AND I'M WITH YOU. AND IF YOU PUT THOSE THREE IDEAS, I SEE YOU, I HEAR YOU, I'M WITH YOU.

YOU WILL BUILD THOSE RELATIONSHIPS. AND I KNOW THAT WHEN AN ADMINISTRATOR ACKNOWLEDGES YOUR BEING, WHEN THEY APPRECIATE YOU, THE PAYOFF IS SO MUCH GREATER THAN ANYTHING THAT YOU COULD ACCOMPLISH BY HARASSMENT.

BUT ANYWAY IT WAS PRETTY POWERFUL. AND THEY TALKED ABOUT TURNING TO ME, TO YOU, TO US, USING US AS YOUR WE USING RATHER THAN SAYING TO YOU, WE YOU NEED TO DO THIS.

WE NEED TO DO THIS. AND ACTIVE LEADERSHIP IS ACTIVE WORK.

CREATE A SHARED VISION. GIVE EVERYONE A RATIONALE FOR WHAT WE'RE DOING, AND THEN PUSH TOGETHER.

AND THIS IS SO FUNNY BECAUSE WHAT THEY SAID WAS WE STAND, WE MAY STAND ALONE, BUT WE ARE TOGETHER. AND I THINK THAT'S FUNNY BECAUSE OUR BIG THING IS AS ONE THIS YEAR, I THOUGHT THAT WAS A VERY POWERFUL SESSION. THE SPEAKER WAS INCREDIBLE.

KEPT MY ATTENTION. MY FAVORITE SESSION WHERE WE BREAK OUT IN THE SESSIONS WAS THE POSITIVE IMPACT, AND IT WAS ABOUT HOW HEB ISD HAS TWO COMFORT DOGS AND THE COMFORT DOGS ARE TRAINED DOGS, JUST LIKE YOU KNOW, SOME PEOPLE HAVE DOGS FOR LIKE, WHEN THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE AN ATTACK OR SOMETHING.

BUT THESE DOGS ARE TRAINED FOR COMPASSION. AND THEY TALKED ABOUT THE DIFFERENT WAYS THESE DOGS HAVE BEEN USED.

AND IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT ONE OF THE GIRLS I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH IS A COUNSELOR AT ONE OF THESE HIGH SCHOOLS, AND SHE TALKS ABOUT HER DOG AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS THAT CAMPUS.

AND THEY USE THE DOG. THEY TALKED ABOUT HOW A MUTE STUDENT WOULDN'T TALK TO ANYBODY, BUT YOU LEAVE THAT STUDENT ALONE WITH THAT DOG IN THE ROOM, AND THAT CHILD BEGINS TO TALK TO THAT DOG. AND THEY TALKED ABOUT HOW ONE DAY, THIS LITTLE BOY, DAD DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, AND THEY BROUGHT THAT CHILD TO SCHOOL, AND THEY JUST LET THE KID GO INTO THE ROOM AND LAY WITH THE DOG AND HOLD THE DOG AND CRY. AND THEY ALSO USE THIS DOG FOR POSITIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

LIKE IF YOU READ SO MUCH, YOU GET TO READ TO THE DOG.

AND THE KIDS JUST LOVE READING TO THE DOG. AND IT JUST IT MOTIVATES THEM.

AND TO GET THEY HAVE TO REALLY SCHEDULE THIS DOG GET SO BUSY GOING AROUND THE CAMPUS.

AND MANY YEARS AGO, I KNEW A TEACHER THAT THAT BROUGHT HER DOG TO HALT HIM.

AND SHE TALKED ABOUT HOW WHEN SHE BROUGHT IT IN CLASS, HOW MUCH BETTER THE KIDS WERE, AND I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS JUST AN INCREDIBLE LITTLE SESSION WHEN WE GOT TO MEET THE DOG AND PET THE DOG, AND IT WASN'T A CHIHUAHUA, IT'S A BIG DOG.[LAUGHTER] AND SO ANYWAY. CHIHUAHUAS. YEAH. AND THEY TALKED ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHEN THE DOG WAS COLLARED UP, IT BEHAVED A CERTAIN WAY.

BUT AS SOON AS THEY GOT THE DOG HOME, THEY DID IT STILL AND BECAME A DOG AND JUST JUMPING AROUND AND PLAYING.

AND BUT IT KNEW ITS BUSINESS COST ABOUT $10,000 TO GET A DOG.

THEY TALKED ABOUT HOW THEIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION WOULD DO IT.

THEY EVEN GOT ONE OF THEIR FORMER STUDENTS WHO'S A VETERINARIAN TO VOLUNTEER ALL THEIR VET COST.

AND SO IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING. AND WHEN I PUT THAT, WHEN I PUT THAT ON MY FACEBOOK, BOY, THERE WAS SOME PRINCIPLES OUT THERE THAT SAID, WE VOLUNTEER, WE VOLUNTEER.

SO IT'S INTERESTING, BE SOMETHING TO LOOK INTO MAYBE AS ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE CAMPUSES THAT ARE STRUGGLING TO HAVE AN EXTRA TOOL IN THEIR TOOL BELT. SO IT'S INTERESTING THAT THAT SESSION WAS ONE OF THE FRESHEST SESSIONS I HAVE BEEN TO IN YEARS.

AND THAT WAS GOING TO BE MY PRESENTATION. BUT THAT'S OKAY.

BUT IT'S OKAY. SO I THINK WE NEED ONE HERE. SO ANYWAY, SO THESE, THESE REPORTS HAVE GONE TO THE DOGS, THE GODS OF THE DOGS. BUT THESE ARE BEAUTIFUL DOGS.

THEY WERE HUGE NICE FLUFFY WHITE DOGS, BUT THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL.

SO ANYWAY, THE GENERAL SESSION, THE FIRST ONE WAS ON JUNE 18TH.

JUNE 19TH [INAUDIBLE] WAS THE PRESENTER AND HE TALKED ABOUT THE POWER OF PURPOSE, POWER AND CONNECTION AND WHAT I GOT OUT OF IT AND WHAT HE STATED WAS CONTRIBUTE TO THE WORLD AND GIVE SOMETHING BACK.

DON'T ALWAYS BE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FROM THE WORLD, BUT PASSION.

IF YOU'RE PASSIONATE, YOU INSPIRE PASSION. OKAY.

OKAY. ANOTHER SESSION THAT I ATTENDED WAS CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF YOUR DISTRICT BY BUILDING A ROCKSTAR CULTURE.

WE ALL THINK WE'RE ROCK STARS RIGHT AT ONE POINT, BUT CULTURE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE.

SUSTAINABILITY. THE ROCK STAR PARADIGM INCLUDES SKILLS, ATTITUDE, RELATIONSHIPS, EXPECTATIONS AND COMMITMENT.

ALSO, CHANGE THE WORLD ONE CHILD AT A TIME. THE CORE VALUES INCLUDE BEING INTENTIONAL, BEING CONSISTENT.

BEING REVERENT. BEING RESOLUTE. BUT THE LEADERSHIP STARTS AT THE TOP.

THIS IS WHAT I GOT OUT OF IT TOO. THIS IS WHAT WAS STATED.

ADMINISTRATORS ARE SERVANTS. WHO,[INAUDIBLE] THESE VERBS, REMOVE OBSTACLES FOR TEACHERS.

THEY ARE NOT MANAGERS WHO PUSH ADDITIONAL WORK ON TEACHERS.

WE HAVE A GREAT EXAMPLE IN OUR DISTRICT OF THIS HAPPENING RIGHT HERE.

SO I THINK WE DO A GREAT JOB. ANOTHER SESSION THAT I ATTENDED WAS THE LAUNCH FOR TRUSTEES.

I'VE ONLY BEEN A TRUSTEE FOR THIS IS MY FOURTH YEAR, SO I'VE LEARNED QUITE A BIT AND I DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO ALL THESE SESSIONS.

BUT EVERY YEAR THAT I GO, I TEND TO LEARN SOMETHING.

I SAY MORE POWERFUL AND MORE MEANINGFUL. BUT IT SAYS CELEBRATE TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS, TELL A GOOD STORY.

AND I THINK WE HAVE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT THAT ARE TELLING GOOD STORIES.

AND I THINK YOU'VE ALWAYS TOLD A GOOD STORY. WE NEED TO TELL BETTER STORIES.

UPDATE 125 CONSISTS OF THREE LOCAL POLICIES. THIS UPDATE COVERS POLICIES THAT ADDRESS BOARD OPERATIONS, SUCH AS BOARD OFFICERS DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS.

IT ALSO ADDRESSES THE UNSAFE SCHOOL OPTION ALIGNMENT AND DATA UPDATE.

WE HAD A CALLED MEETING IN THIS ROOM TUESDAY NIGHT AND DISCUSSED THESE DIFFERENT POLICIES.

AND I HOPED THAT WE COULD KEEP CURRENT POLICY, BUT IT WOULD BREAK STATE LAW.

I THINK IT MAKES SENSE TO LET A CLASSROOM TEACHER NOT ALLOW CELL PHONES IN THE CLASS.

AND IF THEY HAPPEN TO USE THEM WHEN THE TEACHER DOESN'T WANT THEM USED, THEY GET TAKEN UP AND AND SO FORTH TO LET THE CLASSROOM TEACHER CAN CONTROL HIS OR HER CLASSROOM, AND THAT MAKES THE MOST SENSE.

BUT NOPE. STATE LAW NOW SAYS THEY ARE NOT TO BE ON AND USED AT ALL DURING THE CLASSROOM DAY.

AND SO WE HAVE TO FOLLOW THAT POLICY UNTIL THE POLICY GETS CHANGED, PERHAPS SOMEDAY BY THE STATE.

HOWEVER, THE LEGISLATURE HAS MANDATED THAT THIS POLICY BE ADOPTED PRIOR TO THE START OF SCHOOL, YET THEY HAVEN'T WRITTEN IT. THEY DID WRITE THE LAW.

AND SO TO TONIGHT, WHAT WE ARE PROPOSING IS WHAT WE WHAT WE SPOKE ABOUT TUESDAY NIGHT, WHICH IS A POLICY THAT THAT EXACTLY INTERPRETS IT'S NOT AN INTERPRETATION IS THE EXACT LAW THAT WAS WRITTEN.

AND UNTIL TEA AND OR TASB CREATES A, A LEGAL POLICY AND SENDS TO US.

THAT'S, OUR ONLY CHOICE BECAUSE SCHOOL STARTS EARLIER THAN THEY WOULD GET ANYTHING TO US.

AND SO THE SYSTEM IS A LITTLE BACKWARDS THIS TIME AROUND.

ESSENTIALLY WE ARE, IT IS EASIER FOR THE POPULATION, THE PARENTS, TO HOLD US ACCOUNTABLE THAN IT IS THE REPRESENTATIVES IN AUSTIN.

THEREFORE, LOCAL CONTROL SHOULD RULE HERE, I BELIEVE, HONESTLY, THAT AUSTIN IS TAKING THAT LOCAL CONTROL AWAY FROM PARENTS, IN SPITE OF PREACHING PARENTAL RIGHTS OR TAKING THE CONTROL AWAY FROM PARENTS BECAUSE THEY'RE TAKING THAT AWAY FROM US, THAT THEY CAN HOLD ACCOUNTABLE MORE EASILY.
