AND THAT IS NUMBER H. WE HAD BOARD CONFERENCE RECAP LAST MONTH, AND MR. DAVIS WAS NOT ABLE TO BE WITH US. SO HE'S GOING TO GIVE US A QUICK RECAP.AND THEN IF HE WANTS TO ON THE NORTH TEXAS AREA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS MEETING AS WELL.
SO, MR. DAVIS, THANK YOU, MR. KUNKEL. WE THIS IS IN SEPTEMBER.
WE WENT DOWN TO HOUSTON, AS MANY OF YOU HEARD SOME OF THE REPORTS LAST MONTH.
I'M ALWAYS AMAZED THE CONFERENCE OF HOW WELL WE GET TO INTERACT WITH OTHER BOARDS FROM AROUND THE STATE, AND WE'RE NOT ALONE. A LOT OF THE SAME ISSUES THAT WE'RE HAVING, THEY HAVE.
AND TO SHARE SOME OF THE SUCCESSES AND SOME OF THE DOWNFALLS ARE AMAZINGLY HELPFUL TO ME.
SOME OF THE SESSIONS I'VE LEARNED ON FRIDAY. 1 WAS THAT 1 THAT'S REQUIRED THAT WE DO IS THE REPORTING ON CHILD ABUSE, NEGLECT AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING, WHICH I'M ALWAYS AMAZED AT WHY WE AS BOARD MEMBERS HAVE TO DO THAT SINCE WE DON'T INTERACT WITH CHILDREN DURING THE DAY, BUT OUR STAFF IS REQUIRED. SOME OF THAT SAME TRAINING ALONG, AND SOME OF THE AMAZING STATS WERE THAT THERE WERE 53,543 CONFIRMED CASES OF CHILD ABUSE, NEGLECT, OR HUMAN TRAFFICKING GOING ON.
TRY TO FIGHT SOME OF THOSE BATTLES. I WENT TO A MEETING REGARDING SUPERINTENDENT WELLNESS BURNOUT VERSUS BALANCE, AND I'VE EVEN HAD SOME DISCUSSIONS WITH OUR SUPERINTENDENT ABOUT THAT TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S NOT BURNOUT ALONG THE WAY.
BUT HOW MUCH CHALLENGING IT IS. IT'S PROBABLY NOT CHALLENGING BECAUSE OF HAVING 7 DIFFERENT BOSSES, BUT THAT'S A FACTOR. WORKING FOR 7 DIFFERENT BOARD MEMBERS MAKE SURE THAT WE INCLUDE IN OUR TIME WITH HER AS FAR AS OUR ANNUAL EVALUATION, WHICH IS COMING UP PRETTY SOON, THAT WELLNESS IS A PART OF THAT EVALUATION AS WE GO ALONG RELIGIOUS ACCOMMODATIONS WERE ANOTHER SESSION WENT TO, WHICH IS A VERY HOT TOPIC. I THINK WE'VE ANNOUNCED THAT THE 10 COMMANDMENT RULE ABOUT THOSE BEING OUR CLASSROOMS ARE BEING INVOLVED.
NOT JUST THAT, BUT ALSO, HARDSHIPS UPON EMPLOYEES, TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM, THINGS OF THAT NATURE.
TITLE 7 ISSUES CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUES. SO A LOT OF THINGS WERE COVERED IN THOSE DIFFERENT TOPICS.
SO I'M TRYING TO HIT SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS. WE ALSO WENT THROUGH A VERY WHAT'S THE RIGHT WORD? UNENTERTAINING ABOUT THE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE, WHAT WAS GOING ON? THE THINGS THAT AUSTIN KEEPS PUTTING ON LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS IS CHALLENGING.
WE TALKED A LOT ABOUT THE BASIC ALLOTMENT THAT WE REALLY DIDN'T RECEIVE AS MUCH AS WE NEEDED.
THEY'RE STILL BEHIND FROM MANY, MANY YEARS BACK.

SENATE BILL 11 VOTING TO ALLOW CLASSROOM. THERE'S 30 NEW POLICIES THAT AFFECT US.THINK ABOUT THAT. 30 NEW POLICIES THAT AFFECT US AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT DIRECTLY.
ANOTHER INTERESTING TOPIC AND SATURDAY WAS TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY.
FAR AS THE THE DEMAND THAT WE HAVE OFFICERS AT ALL THE SCHOOLS, HOW IT'S DEFINITELY UNFUNDED, HOW THEY'RE ONLY GIVEN ABOUT $15,000, YOU KNOW, PER CAMPUS WHEN WE ALL KNOW EVERYONE LAUGHED AT THAT HOW MUCH MONEY IT'S GOING TO 33 FROM 15 TO 33,000 WHEN IT UPPED IN THE NEW BUDGET.
BUT IT'S STILL NOT ENOUGH. THAT'S A STATE WIDE PROBLEM.
BIG TIME STATEWIDE PROBLEM. BUT THEY'RE TRYING TO DO SOME INNOVATIVE WAYS TO ADDRESS THAT.
ATTENDANCE ISSUES, HOW TO IMPROVE ATTENDANCE.
CLEAR CREEK ISD HAD SOME GREAT STRATEGIES OF HOW TO ADDRESS THAT.
THEY'RE LIKE A I'VE GOT 38,000 STUDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT IN ATTENDANCE.
HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR THEM. AND I DID SKIP WHEN THE COMMISSIONER WAS TALKING, BECAUSE IT'S THE SAME THING WE'D HEARD BEFORE FROM HIM ABOUT HOW HE WAS GOING TO BE HELPING PUBLIC SCHOOLS, BUT DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO DO THAT. AND THAT KIND OF CLOSED IT OUT FOR US.
IT WAS REALLY GOOD. AND SKIP BASKERVILLE WAS AN EXCELLENT DRIVER TO AND FROM DOWN THERE.
