THE TASK FORCE FOUND THAT MORE THAN 20% OF NEW TEACHERS WERE ENTERING CLASSROOMS WITHOUT CERTIFICATION, A FIGURE THAT HAS GROWN TO OVER 40% IN RECENT YEARS. DURING MOST OF THE RECENT LEGISLATIVE SESSION, LAWMAKERS ENACTED CHANGES THAT LIMIT SCHOOL DISTRICTS ABILITY TO HIRE UNCERTIFIED TEACHERS IN AN EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN TEACHER QUALITY AND PREPARATION. HOWEVER, DISTRICTS ARE PERMITTED TO APPLY FOR A WAIVER TO TO DELAY THE FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF THESE RESTRICTIONS UNTIL THE 2029 2030 SCHOOL [APPLAUSE]EAR. THE WAIVER UNDER CONSIDERATION TONIGHT WILL ALLOW OUR DISTRICT ADDITIONAL TIME TO TRANSITION STRATEGICALLY WHILE CONTINUING TO MEET THE STAFFING NEEDS. BIRDVILLE ISD HAS TAKEN PROACTIVE, STRATEGIC STEPS TO ADDRESS THE EVOLVING CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND TEACHER SHORTAGE CHALLENGES. WE HAVE STRENGTHENED PARTNERSHIPS WITH ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION PROVIDERS.
